Irish Volleyball Star Contracted By Local Team - Napier, New Zealand - 14/06/05
After spending some time in New Zealand trying to keep a low sporting profile I have succumbed to my natural state as a sporting God. I have come on to the Eskview Rugby Clubs firsts as their reserve winger, only to be brought on to the field in times of severe adversity. I have had 2 runs from the "reserves resting area" more commonly known as "the bench" and enjoyed them both, but would like more "game time".

I was also dabbling in some social volleyball. As many of you know I have played volleyball at Olympic level representing Ireland. Well obviously word spread and the local press just couldn't stay away. As such if you read the article below it is apparent my cover is blown. The Full Story.

Apart from that life in NZ is great. I was lucky enough to get to attend the first Lions game and see them trash Bay Of Plenty. We met some mates, Barney and Sue, at the game and as such ended up with a large boisterous group of Lions supporters. Gwen liked the Welsh boys accents, so I set her straight. I believe my words were "they're dirty boys". It is great seeing all the touring Lions over here and there is a great buzz around the country.

Gwen and I are very well and recently celebrated our 1 year anniversary. Unfortunately it coincided with the lions game so it was not the romance fest it should have been. We are madly saving so there is not a huge amount of cash for big romantic gestures but being the resourcefull couple we are we both felt very loved. Ahhh how sweet.

Check back soon for more on our amazing adventure.

Brendan
